If you’re searching for a car rental company that offers military discounts and provides rentals within the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, or Africa, Hertz is the company you’ll likely want to use.
As a company with over 10,000 locations around the world, you’re bound to find a Hertz ready to serve you at your next travel location.
But does Hertz offer a military discount and how does it compare to other rental companies? Keep reading to learn more.
What Is the Hertz Military Discount?
Hertz military discount is not a set percentage or amount off of your rental — at least not one they’ll provide to us without more information.
For starters, your discount will be based on whether or not you’re booking a rental for leisure travel on official government orders.
If you’re booking a rental for the latter, your rate will be based on a contracted amount between Hertz and the U.S. government — at the time of this article, the daily base rate is five dollars a day.
Traveling for leisure? Hertz offers Veteran’s Advantage members a variable military discount. If you plan to have your vehicle for an extended period — a week or even a month — be sure to speak with a Hertz representative about your plans, they may have additional discounts available.
Who Is Eligible for Hertz Military Discount?
Hertz’s website, as well as any “terms and conditions” online, do not specify exactly who qualifies for the discount, other than active-duty military members and veterans.
Our best advice? If you are a service member, dependent, law enforcement, first responder, or a teacher, please reach out to the Hertz location you will be renting a vehicle from to ask about a discount — in our opinion, you’ve earned it.
Are you a AAA member? Hertz has partnered with AAA and offers additional benefits and discounts to members. Reach out to your Hertz location to find out more information about which benefits apply to you.
How to Get the Military Discount
To receive your military discount with Hertz, you’ll need to register with Veterans Advantage. From there, you’ll make your reservation online, by phone, or in-person and provide proof of military service.
Every location may have different requirements when it comes to proof of service; ensure you have the proper forms of ID by contacting your pickup location before your travel date.
The most common forms of acceptable identification include your:
- CAC military ID
- Veteran’s ID card
- DD Form 214 (for active duty)
- DD Form 256 (for reservists); and
- DD Form 215 or NGB Form 22 (for veterans)
